A Hamas delegation which had arrived in Cairo on Saturday announced late on Sunday it was leaving to consult with its leadership. There has been no sign yet of a definitive response from the group to new terms proposed by mediators and accepted by Israel last week. Israel has yet to send a delegation to Cairo.

Senior Israeli officials ramped up pressure on Hamas on Sunday, saying Israel would refuse any permanent end to hostilities and threatening a new onslaught “in the very near future” if the militant organisation did not accept recently proposed terms for a ceasefire.

In a televised address, Benjamin Netanyahu once more rejected Hamas’s demands for a definitive end to the war in Gaza, saying that any permanent ceasefire would allow the group to remain in power and pose a continuing threat to Israel.

“Hamas remains entrenched in its extreme positions, first among them the demand to remove all our forces from the Gaza Strip, end the war, and leave Hamas in power,” Netanyahu said. “Israel cannot accept that … Hamas would be able to achieve its promise of carrying out again and again and again its massacres, rapes and kidnapping.”

This current war was triggered by surprise attacks launched by Hamas on southern Israel on a date that we won’t mention in which 1,200-ish people, mostly civilians, were killed and about 250-ish hostages were taken. Exact figures would have to come from the Hamas run Gaza Health Ministry.

Israel’s largest land seizure since Oslo Accords deals fresh blow to Palestinian statehood
Israel declared 800 hectares of land in the West Bank as property of the state on Friday, a move that will facilitate use of the ground for settlement construction. The area covers large swaths of the Jordan Valley, a vital region for a future Palestinian state, and is the largest piece of land to be seized by Israel since the early 1990s.

Issued on: 26/03/2024 - 20:47

That is illegal as fuck.

Yeah, not exactly a mutually agreed upon land swap. Not cool.

The government is against everyone. Against Hamas, against Hezbollah, against the army and against the public. Hamas doesn't care what happens to the Gazans; does the government care what happens to us? Like sailors abandoning a sinking ship they care for themselves. Looting, taking everything they can. Passing funds to friends, helping the ultra-Orthodox, ignoring the fighters.

The soldiers also understand by now that today the government is fighting on their backs. They are its cannon fodder. They are neither out of touch nor idiots. They see where the money goes, they see the extension of reserve duty, the incompetence to deal with the displaced Israelis, the apathy toward the hostages. They are astounded to see how every week the war's goal changes. From "toppling Hamas" in the past to "absolute victory" now. Who knows what this "absolute victory" is, for which they're sacrificing their lives?

'If we don't offer an alternative to chaos in Gaza, we'll end up with Hamas rule again'
The media knows. Journalists who can analyze every second in Sinwar's mind know what happens in Netanyahu's. They know that "absolute victory" means preserving Netanyahu's rule. They know and keep silent. They know there are no other goals, no plans. No "day after." No toppling and no releasing. They all serve the same purpose, the fighters who will fall and the hostages who will be released. That's the goal, and from that everything derives. This is what must be mentioned in every report.

Journalists know, but they're not reporting what the public must know, only what the public wants to know. What doesn't it want to know? That its sons are fighting for Netanyahu. A survey conducted by Nimrod Nir and Nimrod Zeldin of Hebrew University found that most of the public think Channel 1 is the most reliable. It is also the least watched. Conclusion: Reliability doesn't count. The public prefers being lied to than being tormented with the painful truth.

Commentators don't recite the painful truth to the cameras like hostages with a gun to their head. They practice psychological terrorism, present a false spectacle of reservists who are willing to serve two to three more years as long as the goal is achieved. They cover up the fact that the goal is deliberately vague.

Self-defense and human shields: How should Israel wage war in Gaza?
Israel's future is tied to the hostages' fate - and Netanyahu doesn't get it
With the 'perfect' rescue operation, Israel's dehumanization of Gazans reached a new low
But the government doesn't appreciate their submissive devotion and treats the commentators like reserve soldiers. Who does it approach to report on 30 dead hostages, Alon Ben David? To whom does it send Brig-Gen. Barak Hiram to explain shelling a community center with hostages in it, Nir Dvori? No. It goes to the New York Times.

The media accepts the humiliation with its head bowed. It abandons the stage to the worthless speeches of politicians with nothing to say. Instead of information, it floods us with hostage stories to mournful harp sounds. It doesn't want to spoil the joy over releasing two hostages with the alarming number of killed Gazans.

The television studios think we're morons, that it's easy to feed us nonsense but not bad news. Bad news that is "cleared for publication" cannot be concealed with "impressive achievements" and "successes." They won't tell the truth: that from now on the war is a whim of one dangerous cynic. It would hurt the "united nation" narrative they're fostering. They don't want us to think that anyone who is killed from now won't be falling in defense of the country, but in defense of the government. They don't query, they hide. Instead of information there's a snowjob. A blizzard of unimportant information. This and that division moved from here to there and from there to here.

That's not relevant. That's not interesting. What is interesting? The hostages, the displaced Israelis and the attack in Rafah.

How do we win without eliminating thousands of refugees? How do we get rid of them? We "transport" them. Sure, the brilliant minds who don't even know how to take care of 100,000 Israeli refugees "will know" how to "transport" 1.4 million Gazan refugees? Like sheep, like oranges? On the face of it, it's easy. You shower them with leaflets telling them to transport themselves. And whoever remains? May Allah have mercy on him.

I have a suggestion for the pollster Dr. Camil Fuchs: Check whether the public supports or opposes an act in Rafah during which, say, 5,000 old people, women and children will be killed. My guess: The public will support it, providing they don't have to see it.

Israel should have done it already.

Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he will not accept Hamas's demands for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza. Netanyahu released a video message rejecting Hamas's request for Israel to withdraw all troops from the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of some of the hostages.
Hamas insists that any hostage-release deal must include a permanent end to the war and a withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave, etc…
The word is “ceasefire”, an end to the Israeli assault that has pummeled the Gaza Strip for seven months – killing at least 34,683 and injuring at least 78,018 (according to the Hamas controlled Gaza Health Ministry) more in a drawn-out Israeli retaliation for a Hamas-led attack on its territory on that date last year between October 6th & 8th.

(Can’t say how many Hostages {some news sites are now calling them prisoners} are even still alive, but can say 34,683 dead Palestinians & another 78,018 where wounded, etc…)

Maybe Hamas will tell israel to surrender all positions in Gaza to them again for the 6th time or no deal in the next round of negotiations, and that’ll be the middle ground to a cease-fire, temporary or permanent?
A senior U.S. administration official says that a cease-fire deal could be close in the Israel-Hamas war but both sides still have conflicting proposals.

Israel should not even have discussions about a cease fire until all remaining hostages are released. Then, they can start talking.

Mass murder, rape and Jew hatred must be condemned
Those averting their eyes may think what they are doing – or not doing – doesn't matter, but you're wrong

ENROUTE TO ISRAEL – One of the things that happens in politics, when you work in politics, is what happens afterwards.

Memoirs and books get written, political scientists hold conferences, students analyze strategies and tactics in essays. Historians endlessly debate important events.

The weird thing is that, when you are working in politics – in a campaign, in government, in opposition – you don’t get weighted down by the historical significance of it all. You just are doing the job and trying to avoid disaster. You don’t sit around wondering if historians will scrutinize what you did on a particular day or at a certain moment.

What is happening right now, in real life, is like that. Jews have been killed and raped and kidnapped and attacked and terrorized. And a whole lot of people – the majority of people, it seems – are just shrugging. It’s Sunday. It’s sunny out. Whatever.

Convincing yourself that something doesn’t have anything to do with you is something people do all the time. A fatal crash on a highway you use, a neighborhood kid drowning at a summer camp: it’s sad, yes, for sure. But it doesn’t have anything to do with you. So, thoughts and prayers. Five minutes later, you’re thinking about dinner.

Is that bad? Well, it depends. If you grieve every fatal auto accident that happens in Canada every year – on average, there are 2,000 – you’ll never get anything done. You’ll lose your mind.

But what if there’s a Holocaust, and a nation at the epicentre of Europe is methodically killing millions of people because they happen to belong to a certain religion? Or, what if those same people – their children and grandchildren – are the ones now being killed and terrorized, all over the world?

That’s when you are supposed to pay attention. That’s when you are supposed to get involved. That’s when you are supposed to raise your voice and say: no, never again. No.

But that’s not really happening, is it?

Now, when Jews talk about how scared they are, other people – their neighbors, their work colleagues, their friends – sometimes roll their eyes. Oh, come on, they think – or say out loud. It’s not Hitler’s Germany in 1939. Don’t exaggerate. Don’t get carried away.

But that’s how many Jews are feeling, since Oct. 7, 2023. For about five minutes, the world made sympathetic noises about the fact 1,200 innocent people – men, women, children, babies – had been rounded up and slaughtered. For about two minutes, the world expressed dismay about sexual violence experienced by Jewish women and girls. For a minute, they thought about the hundreds of Jews who were kidnapped.

And then, quite a few people started denying it. Or dismissing it. Or getting up and changing the channel to the playoffs.

Again: it’s unrealistic to expect people to be preoccupied by every tragedy. Daily life is suffused with tragedy. But when innocent people are slaughtered on a mass scale? When scores of them are tortured and raped? When all that happens because of their religion? Well, that’s when lingering on the sidelines, yawning, isn’t so acceptable anymore.

Which leads us, in a circuitous route, to this moment in time and, to be frank, you. What are you doing, right now, to express disapproval about mass murder and rape and, now, a worldwide orgy of Jew hatred?

The minority who support Hamas and want to see Israel wiped off the map – mostly young people, tragically – we now know what they think. They don’t care. They’re seen on university campuses all over North America, right now, openly pledging allegiance to terrorists and monsters. In their words, and in their deeds, we know who they are. They’re not hiding it.

But what about everyone else? What about the majority who know – in their hearts and their minds – that the beast of anti-Semitism is slouching away from Bethlehem, shooting up Jewish day schools, firebombing Jewish places of worship, beating up Jewish kids simply because they want to go to class? What about them?

I’m on a plane now, heading to Israel for a week. I’m going to be writing for this newspaper when I’m there. I’ve been sponsored, full disclosure, by private Jewish citizens in Canada.

And, when I get over there, I have a pretty good idea what some Israelis are going to say to me: has the entire world turned against us? Are we finally alone, now?

That’s what they’re going to ask me, I reckon. But I know they’re going to say something to me. I know this, because I’ve been hearing it for months, now, from Jews who are Canadians.

This is what they’ll say: we Jews know who stood with us, in these dark days, and who did not. We will not forget it.

Like I said at the start, to those averting their eyes on the sidelines: you may think what you are doing – or not doing – doesn’t matter. You may think no one’s watching. You may think it’s not your fight.

But you’re wrong about all that. It matters; they’re watching. It’s your fight, too.

And what you do, now, will be indelibly written in history, and on your soul.

Hamas's armed wing claimed responsibility on Sunday for an attack on the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza that Israel said killed three of its soldiers.

Hamas' armed wing said it fired rockets at an Israeli army base by the crossing, but did not confirm where it fired them from. Hamas media quoted a source close to the group as saying the commercial crossing was not the target.

Shortly after the Hamas attack, an Israeli airstrike hit a house in Rafah killing three people and wounding several others, Palestinian medics said.

The Israeli military confirmed the counter-strike, saying it struck the launcher from which the Hamas projectiles were fired, as well as a nearby "military structure".

Hamas denies it uses civilians as human shields. Much propaganda on both sides. Sunday's attack on the crossing came as hopes dimmed for ceasefire talks under way in Cairo.
Israel's armed forces have begun evacuating Palestinian civilians from Rafah ahead of a threatened assault on the southern Gazan city, an Israeli broadcaster said on Monday.

There was no immediate confirmation from the military of the report on Army Radio.
