Software Review:
WinDVD Plus, once a worthy competitor to the likes of PowerDVD, is now a subsidiary of Corel. It still does a wonderful job of playing back regular DVD and Blu-ray discs, but has fallen behind in terms of functionality. Nevertheless, it does include much-sought-after DVD filters and decoders which were absent in Windows XP. Another useful feature which became popular with the PlayStation 3 system is the HD-upscaling which it performs on DVD playback; though not exactly the best way to watch HD, it does an OK job of achieving a level of high definition media players like VLC can't.
WinDVD 11 is a shareware program and can be used as a demo to try the software until the free trial period has ended. A full version of the program is available after the trial period ends.
