SevenZIP

7-Zip (or Seven Zip) is a archiver with a very high compression ratio with support for several other popular formats like RAR, ZIP, CAB and Linux formats like GZIP, BZIP2 and Redhat RPM. 7-Zip can also compress ZIP files up to 10% better than WinZip. With a fully functional user interface, 7-Zip can also be run from the command line with powerful options.

It also contains a file manager, a FAR manager plug-in, support for almost 50 languages and native 7Z support.

Seven Zip is great in that it's a completely free alternative to other archivers like WinRAR and WinZip. Even though it's a powerful program, both its simple side and more advanced side shine through. It's also great for those (like us, here at CC) who move between Linux and Windows.

7-Zip is a file archiver with the highest compression ratio. The program supports 7z, ZIP, RAR, CAB, ARJ, CPIO, RPM, DEB, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR formats. Compression ratio in the new 7z format is 30-50% better than ratio in ZIP format. Also 7-Zip compresses to ZIP 2-10% better than PKZip and WinZip. 7-Zip has additional powerful command line version and FAR Manager support.

SevenZIP 9.22 is licensed as Freeware for the Windows operating system / platform without restrictions. SevenZIP is available to all software users as a free download (Freeware).
