If you have information stored in files on your PC (or that you wish to send to someone) and you don't want anyone who might gain access to your PC (e.g., a thief) to be able to read those files then you can encrypt that data using a secure encryption program (such as Cryptosystem ME6).
The problem with encrypted data is that its presence indicates that there is something there which might be worth seeing. This problem can be solved by hiding the encrypted data (or the original plaintext) so that it is no longer visible. Use this software download to hide a message file of any size within one or more BMP image files. Uses a stego key for encryption and randomization of bit-insertion. Allows use of a default stego key for transmission of a message to others.
Hermetic Stego is designed to resist detection of hidden message by statistical tests.

- There is no limit on the type or the size of the file to be hidden because Hermetic Stego can hide a data file, not just in a single BMP image file, but in a set of them — as many images as needed to contain the data file (but see the note below).
- The bits of the data are inserted into the bytes of the image files randomly and in such a way as to defeat the use of statistical tests to reveal the presence of hidden data.
- The program can be used with a user-specified stego key or with a default stego key; use of a default stego key allows sending hidden data to another person who does not know what that stego key is.
