Hamachi is a tool for creating virtual private networks (VPNs) over the Internet. The connections are encrypted and hence safe for sharing sensitive data between systems. A virtual private network is essentially a second Internet connection, effectively tunneling through the Internet.

The client for Hamachi is completely free, though using the services provided by LogMeIn, Inc are actually provided at a cost if you want to use their VPN servers. You are certainly welcome to do a free trial of this system to see whether this particular VPN solution is right for you.

Creating networks with Hamachi is safe and easy. All connections created with it are protected by AES-256 (256-bit) encryption.

Usage of Hamachi does require some knowledge in networking. You may be required to to do some heavy duty firewall and router configuration on both sides to get this client to work properly. Thanks to the online support though, any questions can easily be answered from their forums or from their FAQ page; the forums are certainly the most comprehensive source of help.
