The built-in Windows search engine is often slow and inefficient, that's why "Everything" has been developed as an alternative.
Everything indexes pretty much all files and folders on Windows (hence it's name). Once finished indexing data on your system, Everything will display quick search results, and lightning fast if you compare it to Windows.
The Everything indexer does not use very much in terms of system resources and runs quietly in the background without any user intervention.
Version 1.4.1.1026 is a freeware program which does not have restrictions and it's free so it doesn't cost anything.
