DirectX 9.0c includes support for Pixel Shader and Vertex Shader 3.0, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using DirectX.

Features include:
  • Multi-Threading: The ability to scale across multi-core CPUs will enable developers to take greater advantage of the power within multi-core CPUs. This results in faster framerates for games, while still supporting the increased visual detailing.
  • DirectCompute: Developers can utilize the power of discrete graphics cards to accelerate both gaming and non-gaming applications. This improves graphics, while also enabling players to accelerate everyday tasks, like video editing, on their Windows 7 PC.


Windows 7 comes with a newer version of DirectX but is fully compatible with all of the new features of DirectX 9.0c.

If you're wanting an even newer version, DirectX 10 is also available. This version is the DirectX 9.0c download redist version. That means it may be included in software packages or just simply used freely by anyone wishing to update their DirectX version on Windows XP or Windows 7 (32-bit).

DirectX 9.0c is for older versions of Windows. If you're using Windows 7, you should already be running DirectX 11.
