After you install and start running Comtun from one of your computers which connects direct to the Internet , all other computers will share the same connection by TCP/IP, thus your PC becomes a gateway between the Internet and your local network. Since the gateway machine acts as a firewall by only opening a few well-known ports, no other users on Internet can access your LAN, thus Comtun protects you from the attack of Internet hackers. You don't have to use this gateway exclusively for Comtun, you can run other software applications on this host because all the connection traffics are in the background.
