Why pay for a full firewall solution for your PC when there is Comodo Internet Security available? This software isn't hard on the eye either, with a nice looking user interface, tons of features and tons of extras. Not only is Internet Security a firewall, but a complete antirootkit, antispyware with powerful antivirus protection.
Comodo can stand by their promise of keeping malware away because nothing seemed to get through. The automatic updates CIS performs is fast and online support is plentiful. Did I mention it's free? Comodo also offers a paid version of CIS but it isn't really necessary unless you want Wireless LAN encryption and live one-on-one support (which is great to have).
Either way, Internet Security is a very balanced suite of tools to protect your computer from unwanted intrusions. Comodo also managed to combine their best-in-class protection suite without making a huge dent in system performance and the firewall can also be installed on its own.
The firewall part of CIS 2011 can take a while to get used to and isn't the easiest solution to use out of the box but it is extremely powerful, especially if you're doing online banking or storing important personal information on your PC. The firewall denies Internet access to unauthorized programs and can resist DDOS (distributed denial of service) attacks while SafeSurf halts buffer overflow attacks.
The Defense Monitor that comes with the suite is a pretty balanced malware tool which can alert you when it detects suspicious activity.
Unfortunately with this Comodo suite, the antivirus and antimalware suites aren't the strongest available on the market, so installing just the firewall and holding back on the rest might give you more piece of mind while leaving the antivirus jobs to a more dedicated program like avast or AVG. Don't get me wrong, Comodo does a great job for a free program, but more heavy duty protection could be provided by a more dedicated antivirus app.
