Google has a new homepage, along with a new engine

In a rather awkward move today, search giant Google has drastically modified its normally simple homepage to something more extravagant.

A new vividly colourful photo now adorns the homepage in an attempt to get it's many millions of daily searchers to use a new feature called homepage customization -- something the Google blog calls a little bit of inspiration.

Nobody can say yet whether this feature will be permanent, but many are calling it a direct rip-off of upcoming search rival Bing. We can't agree with that, since Google's mail service, Gmail, has been providing customized themes providing a selection of themed background images.

The new creative personalization follows the release of Google's new and improved inner-workings known as Caffeine.
