Buying .ca domains

Have you ever wanted a .ca domain? It's always been hard to get one, you had to be a federally incorporated company to be able to purchase one, otherwise you would have to settle for a yourname.toronto.on.ca name if you were an individual, but it has been de-regulated, so anybody with a credit card can purchase one now. Only problem is: the price.

Ca domains have gone up in price, from a small one-time fee of $70.00 plus tax, to up to $100.00 for two years. But like all things, there are companies that do offer discounts. For example: you can buy a domain at

http://www.sibername.com - $27.90 per year
http://www.istop.com - $24.95 per year, $21.00 each additional year.

Additionally, all new domains are controlled by CIRA. As opposed to a small board. Though the prices for .ca domains are high, buying a .com, .net, .org domain would probably be the smarter choice for individuals right now, until the price declines. On the other hand, if you have a Canadian business, a .ca domain is definately the right choice. Customers look at your domain, and feel happy to work with a Canadian company, just as it would look strange for a British company to have a .com domain, when most of them have .co.uk domains.

Be sure to visit CIRA (click on CIRA) for a full listing of domain providers, it will list them by province and language.
