Despite living outside of Canada in some cases for decades, several well-known Canadian ex-pats have been admitted into the Order of Canada. The announcement was made on June 30th though the ceremony will likely take place later in 2010.

Michael J. Fox, James Ehenes, Gwyn Dyer and Hal O'Leary are among the total of 74 appointees being admitted later in the year.

Michael J. Fox, perhaps the most well known, has been nominated for his contributions to the fight against Parkinson's disease, something the Burnaby native has been dealing with for years. In addition, he's also being recognized for his contribution in the arts as an actor in television and film.

James Ehenes, who started his career in music at the age of four is an acclaimed violist.

Gwyn Dyer currently based in London, UK is among the journalists receiving the award and Hal O'Leary joins Michael J. Fox as an advocate for people with disabilities.
