TUGZip is a freeware alternative file archiver and compression utility which competes with its commercial counterparts such as WinZip and its freeware rival Seven Zip.
This compression application is highly regarded among enthusiasts as one of the fastest and perhaps even the best file compression utility available as a free download; it supports so many formats that after reading the list, you probably haven't even heard of half of them. As you may have guessed, TUGZip supports the most common formats: ZIP, TAR, TGZ, BunZip, CAB and 7ZIP archives. It can also handle some of the less common file types like ACE files, ARJ, CPIO, DEV, GunZip, IMP, LIB, RAR, RPM (Redhat Packages), TAZ and YZ1.
Like any self-respecting archiver which wants to have a future, it integrates nicely within the Windows Shell and Windows context menus.
Using the program is pretty straight forward, and if you're a beginner, it shouldn't be hard to get a handle on how most compression archivers work; TUGZip really isn't that much different from the rest when it comes to layout and basic functions.
Unlike some free archiver applications, TUGZip is really a great product and we're happy to report that it's completely free as in beer. From Christian Kindahl:
